Anglo Indian Café, Chijmes

The Anglo Indian Café at Chijmes was a happy coincidence that we ran into. That day, a friend of mine had organised a catch-up at the Glasshouse. We discovered that our appetites required a bit more than what was on offer. As we walked around Chijmes, we chanced upon this place.

The Ambience, Service and the Staff

Anglo Indian is professionally run. Their staff are friendly and warm and seated us immediately. We had not called ahead and had walked in after discovering that the previous place would not be able to sate our hunger for lunch.

The Food

The food here is excellent. The portions are very generous.

We’d ordered some chicken wings, nachos, garlic and butter naan, Bombay potatoes, paalak paneer, chicken dum biriyani, gobi manchurian, yellow dal, and chicken tika masala. We also ordered drinks for everyone around.

The quality of the food was very good. It all came out at once, and was served hot and fresh. The dum biriyani was particularly well made.

The Price Point

Between 4 people, we ran up a bill of $180 including drinks. In hindsight, we also ordered too much and could not finish everything, and probably would have been able to keep it down to about $120 for 4 people if we were more conscious about the portions.

This is quite reasonable for an Indian restaurant of this calibre in this part of town for lunch.

The Final Verdict

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

The Anglo Indian Café offers a great selection of Indian food in a nice environment, with enough variety for the uninitiated to be well taken care of. If you’re keen to take a group of friends who are unfamiliar with Indian food to an Indian restaurant, this would be the place to go. Just be mindful of the size of the portions and your appetites.
