Anglo Indian Café Marina One

This is the third outlet that Anglo Indian Café have opened up, after the ones at Chijmes and Shenton Way. They serve some really good Indian food that is quite authentic.

Ambience, Service and the Staff

I’d visited the Marina One branch of Anglo Indian in late February with a group of friends from work. This branch had only been in operation for a few weeks, and has a fresh feel to the premises.

We were a party of 8 and arrived just before noon at a time when the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy.

We had not booked ahead and walked in. We were seated immediately and presented with menus.

The staff are thoroughly professional and helpful, and gave of sufficient time to make decisions among ourselves.

When the time came to order, they were very patient with us, as some of us changed decisions in the middle of ordering.

The Food

We ordered mango lassi for 6, a hot latte and some earl grey tea for drinks, along with water, Gobi Manchurian and a veg combo platter for starters, and garlic and plain naan, tandoori roti, Captain’s Chicken, Butter Chicken, Fish Masala, Bhindi Masala and Palak Paneer as our mains.

Drinks came out very quickly, followed by the starters. The Gobi Machurian was particularly well prepared. The veg platter is a combo of chips, falafel, spinach pakoras and vegetable pakoras and offers a varied selection to cater for all tastes.

The mains arrived soon after. My two personal favourites were the Captain’s Chicken, and the Palak Paneer.

The Naan was hot, fresh and fluffy.

Overall, this was an awesome meal, and ended up ordering more than we could finish.

The Price Point

For a group of 8, including the mango lassis, we spent just under $260 – or about $32.50 per person. This is a bit pricey for lunch. However, bear in mind that we were there as a team from work, we ordered more than could finish, and that in general, Indian food is more than just one item. The Mango Lassi at $7 per item adds up very quickly.

With that said, they do offer several promotions, including 1-for-1 deals Monday through Wednesday, and set lunch deals – which bring the price point down significantly.

The Final Verdict

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The quality of the food here is, without question, very good. Anglo Indian at Marina One is a great place to get lunch with colleagues in the middle of the business day. This branch is only open on weekdays.

This is a great place to bring a team out for lunch, particularly for significant work events. This is also a great place to catch up with a friend or colleague during the work day with whom you share a closer bond with (and a love for Indian food).

They have excellent service, and very good quality of food, and in spite of the price, would definitely come back here again.
