We were looking for something low key on hump day during a demanding week… a place that was not too expensive, but nice and a little bit different. This Classic American Diner in The Capitol-Kempinsky Arcade fit the bill perfectly.
The Ambience, Service and Staff
As Singapore continues to emerge out of Covid-19 restrictions, we were continuing to support our F&B establishments.
Broadway American Diner is one of several F&B establishments in the arcade of the Capitol-Kempinsky Hotel. It’s under shelter and fully air conditioned. The restaurant is decorated in the theme of a classic American diner from the 1950s.
We were a party of 2 and had made our reservations via Chope. We were quickly seated by the friendly and professional staff. We got a booth right underneath a neon sign which wasn’t lit up on the day. Menus are available through a QR code on the table. Water is served in pink and white mugs. On a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was operating at about 20% capacity with only the lower floor in operation.
The Food
We were not particularly hungry and ordered a side of sweet potato fries to go with a black Angus beef and Texas smoked beef sausage burger (well done), and barbeque Angus beef burger (medium). The burgers here do not come with fries. They also only offer medium and well done burgers.
Our sweet potato fries came out first in about 5 minutes – the were fresh and hot – you could feel the heat rising off them when they were served. The burgers came out about 10 minutes later. The barbeque Angus beef burger came with onion rings.
We felt that the burgers were a little smaller than we expected. On the bright side, we were well fed without having overeaten. I recommend going with medium doneness on burgers. My well-done burger was a little bit tough.
We were well looked after throughout our visit, and didn’t have any room left for the apple pie that we were both eyeing. That will be for another time.
The Price Point
Our meal for four came up to just over $50 and we have 15% off using a UOB Credit Card which is a fair amount for an establishment of this standard.
The Final Verdict
Broadway American Diner offers a low key, fun environment for a casual date, or a place to meet up with friends or work colleagues for a bite. It has a lovely ambience, offers a competitive price, and service is quick. They’re definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
