Good Intentions

Permanently Closed

This establishment is no longer in operation.

East Coast Road has a decent collection of brunch places. I happened to discover Good Intentions a couple of weeks ago after having had breakfast at Rabbit-Carrot-Gun. It had just opened and offers al-fresco dining along the main street, and indoor seating at the bar and indoors upstairs.

The Ambience, Service and Staff

Good Intentions is located on the street level in a refurbished shophouse on East Coast Road. We were a party of 2 and walked in on our first visit without a reservation. Reservations can be made via Quandoo (use the referral code DEBASHIS5259JNW for 500 bonus points on your first reservation when signing up via iOS or Android).

At 10 a.m. on a Saturday morning, the alfresco tables were already taken, and there were a couple of people at the bar. We were led to the upper floor where we were the first customers and had the whole floor to ourselves. The staff were really friendly, provided us with menus and served us water straight away.

The decor is tasteful and minimalist with warm colours, and utilitarian wooden and steel cafe furniture, accented with indoor plants and plenty of natural light.

The Food

We ordered the Eggs and Snags, and the Hot Cakes for our mains, two skinny flat whites and an iced oat latte for our coffees, and a croissant.

Coffee came out quickly – in about 5 minutes. The Eggs and Snaggs came out first – two fried eggs served with a chicken bratwurst, tater tots, half a tomato, and a side of salad. The size was perfect and not overwhelming.

The Hot Cakes took a while to come out – around 15 minutes. They eventually arrived, served hot and fresh. It’s a large pancake, topped with blueberries and strawberries, served with maple syrup. The pancakes is really well made, with crispy edges, a soft interior and is not too sweet.

The croissant was served hot with a side of butter, and had a flaky exterior and soft interior.

The coffee was particularly good.

The Price Point

The price point is very attractive here. The breakfast mains are priced around $14, offering portion sizes that are generous without being overwhelming. For the amount of food we ordered, our total bill was less than $45 which is amazing value.

The Final Verdict

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Good Intentions is yet another amazing place along East Coast Road to meet up with friends on weekends and during the week. Their indoor seating is really cool and trendy. They offer great service, and are priced very competitively. I reckon this’ll soon become one of my go-to cafés in the area.
