Jimmy Monkey is a quirky little Australian style café that has outlets at Paya Lebar Quarter and One North Residences I’ve visited the latter a few times.
The Ambience, Service and Staff
Jimmy Monkey at One North Residences is a quirky little café. Housed at the bottom of a residential building, the interior is very rough and industrial. The interior has torn down an upper floor to create high ceilings. The old brick work has been left exposed and there is a toilet bowl that has been left where it originally was on the upper floor that is fastened against the wall. We’ve never made reservations here and have always walked in. While it is always busy, we have generally managed to get in with a 10 minute wait. They have printed menus and you order at the counter.
We’re normally a party of 2 and have generally had breakfast here.
We tend to get the Eggs ‘n Toast with a Chorizo sausage, and The Hulk – smashed avocado, dukkah, and feta cheese on sourdough – accompanied with coffee.
Coffee comes out first. They have very decent coffee that will help both comfort and wake one up. Their breakfast is good. The Hulk is a very pleasant surprise with fresh avocado beautifully offset with the dukkah and the feta cheese. The sourdough bread adds to the tartness. The eggs ‘n toast is a decent size portion with slightly gooey scrambled eggs. The chorizo on the side with the baked beans makes it a hearty meal.
The Price Point
Breakfast for 2 here usually runs about $40 – not bad value. The café is a little out of the way, and one needs to make an effort to get here.
The Final Verdict
Jimmy Monkey is quirky and nice. They have good food and a quirky interior at a competitive price point. It’s a little off the beaten path, and is a nice place to get breakfast. If you’re in the area, it is worth visiting them.
