Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba is on the third level of Suntec City above atrium between Tower 1 and 2. It is part of 7 Japanese restaurants (called “7”!) that are arranged as part of the Japan Food Street area. It is part of the larger Menya Kokoro chain of ramen outlets in Singapore.
The Ambience, Service and Staff
This is a no-frills restaurant that focuses on offering a comforting and affordable Japanese meal. It’s a popular joint, particularly among younger people, and can get very busy. I’ve occasionally had to line up. They do not take reservations here. The staff are very efficient, and have generally seated me quickly, and provided me with a menu. Menya Kokoro has the atmosphere of a typical authentic Japanese ramen bar. They have a spartan minimalist Japanese decor, and small tables flanked by cushioned bench seats on one side, and small stools on the other.
The Food
I’ve been here a few times. I generally get the Tan Tan Ramen with a side of home made Gyoza, and a pitcher of infused water.
Their service is generally quick, but on days when they are at peak capacity, they sometimes do struggle to keep up with demand. I have generally had water served immediately, followed by the gyoza a few minutes later, and then the ramen about 5 minutes later. On busy days, it has taken up to 10 minutes for my food to come out.
For a spartan, no frills restaurant, they do a good job presenting the food. Their ramen is hot and full bodied without being too strong. The Tan Tan ramen isn’t spicy as I’d expected. The gyoza are well made, and remain soft on the inside, and slightly crispy on the outside. This makes for a very comforting at the end of a tiring day.
The Price Point
A regular portion of the Tan Tan Ramen is $14.30 and the gyoza is $5.20. My entire standard meal is just under $24 including taxes. It’s generally good value for a quick and wholesome meal.
The Final Verdict
Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba offers great value for casual meals. This is a great place to grab a bite while shopping, or casually meet up with a small group of friends.
