Rabbit Carrot Gun

This establishment is no longer in operation.

Having recently moved to the East Coast area, I’ve been spoilt for choice with the number of great places to eat along East Coast Road and Tanjong Katong. Rabbit Carrot Gun has always caught my fancy. I met up with an old friend of mine for breakfast on Christmas Eve.

The Ambience, Service and Staff

As Singapore continues to emerge out of Covid-19 restrictions, we were continuing to support our F&B establishments.

Rabbit Carrot Gun is in the corner section of a row of shop houses. It’s a throwback to a typical Melbourne cafe, decorated with quirky images and bric-a-brac. They offer an alfresco dining area outside, and a sun-bathed air conditioned area indoors which opens up to the street through an air curtain.

We were a party of 2 and had made our reservations via Chope. We were quickly seated by the friendly and professional staff and provided a menu and water. It was early on a Friday morning on Christmas Eve and we were the first customers.

The Food

Rabbit Carrot Gun has a Troffing (food) and a Quaffing (drinks) menu. We were here for breakfast, and chose two very standard items – the Avo Smash, and the Buttermilk Pancakes. We complemented our breakfast with a latte and an iced cappuccino.

Our coffees came out first, in about 5 minutes. They were really comforting and well made. The food followed about 5 minutes later.

The Avo Smash was true to its name, served with a couple of poached eggs on a slice of Sourdough bread with a side of salad. The buttermilk pancakes were particularly good, served up as a fluffy stack and topped with whipped ricotta, berries, and walnuts with a side of maple syrup. The portion sizes were decent without being overwhelming.

I went back and visited Rabbit Carrot Gun again about a week later and got the Eggs Benedict – two poached eggs and a very generous serving of bacon on a slice of sourdough bread topped with Hollandaise Sauce and a side of salad that was very well made.

The Price Point

Our meal for two came up to just over $50 which is the going rate for cafés in this area.

The Final Verdict

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Rabbit Carrot Gun is a nice, casual café that serves up great coffee, has a quirky atmosphere, and offers a great place to meet up with friends on a weekend. It’s a great place to catch-up for a meal after a long day at work or to hang out with friends. I definitely recommend it. If you’re in the area and need to good meal after a workout in the morning – stop by here!
