Sandwich Saigon

If you’re looking for some great value Vietnamese fare along East Coast Road, you need to try out Sandwich Saigon.

The Ambience, Service and Staff

Sandwich Saigon in in the bottom of a green shop house along East Coast Road. It’s a humble little establishment that has a no-frills look, with a spartan decor of standard café tables running along bench seats. Their menus are printed on card that are placed in a box at your table, where you fill your order in and place your order at the point of sale. Alternatively, you can place your order via their electronic menu and make your payment at the point of sale. They issue you a buzzer that goes off once your order is ready, which is when you need to go back to the point of sale to pick your order up. Nestled away in Bedok, this unpretentious little coffee shop is always full. They have seating indoors, and out. I prefer the indoors, especially with the Singapore heat. Once you’re indoors and seated, their friendly staff are very helpful. You place your orders at the counter from their menu.

The Food

We’re normally a party of 2 when we visit, and have often gotten delivery from here. We generally order the dry pork noodles and the beef salad. We also frequently order the Pork Banh Mi (Vietnamese pork bun).

Their very quick with their food which is typically prepared in under 10 minutes.

The portions are large and flavourful. The dry noodles and the salads have plenty of the protein accompanying the vegetables and will keep even a hungry adult satisfied. The Pork Banh Mi is served in a freshly baked baguette that is crispy on the outside, and generously filled with pork and vegetables.

The Price Point

A meal for 2 usually sets us back about $25 which is amazingly good value.

The Final Verdict

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Sandwich Saigon is one of those go-to restaurants that everyone needs to have up their sleeves. They’re not expensive, serve really good food while offering great value, and are a completely self-service establishment which is a great place for a hearty meal at the end of a long day with a friend or two. I’ve been eating here for more than 2 years and will continue to do so.
