Santa Fe Tex-Mex Grill

This is yet another place on Purvis Street that offers some great food and atmosphere to catch up for a meal with friends.

Ambience, Service and the Staff

Santa Fe Tex-Mex Grill is next door to Saveur and on the street level of the many shophouses that grace Purvis Street. The interior of the restaurant is painted in bright yellow and complemented with grey and bright blue upholstered chairs, and dark wooden tables to give it a warm feeling of the American Southwest. We were a party of 5 and had a table ready when we arrived.

We had made a reservation through Quandoo (use the referral code: DEBASHIS5259JNW for new sign-ups). We were among the first customers on a Saturday morning, and the restaurant filled up as we went through our meal.

The staff here were friendly and very helpful. Menus were on the table when we got there.

The Food

As we were looking at the menus, they told us about their All-You-Can-Eat Ala-Carte Buffet which offered everything including Fajitas, Ribs, Quesadillas, and Chimichangas. We went with their suggestion, and also ordered some wine on the happy hour prices, and soft drinks.

We ordered some nachos with guacamole, mashed potatoes, steak fries, buffalo wings, chimichangas, quesadillas, pulled pork, chicken and beef fajitas, calamari, Tex-Mex grilled chicken, Barbecued Baby Back Ribs, Pan Fried Barramundi, Veracruz Chimichurri and Mango Salsa, Buttered Corn Kernels, Mexican Street Corn Kernels, and Grilled Vegetables.

The food comes out in small plates and is perfect for sharing with a group. We particularly liked the chimichangas that had a lovely crust around a cheesy filling. The soft-shell tacos were really good as were the the selection of meats and condiments for the filling. The buffalo wings were hot and well presented. The Mexican street corn presented a fun flavour to complement the sweetness of the corn kernels.

Our orders continued to be replenished as we worked our way through the meal. The staff were on the ball and took really good care of us.

Being a buffet, we left feeling very well fed, and having tried several items on the menu.

The Price Point

The Ala-Carte buffet is priced at $28.90 on weekends. The menu does have premium items that are $2.40 per serving which we did not order. A bottomless soft drink was priced at $4.50, and a glass of wine was on offer for $8 as a happy hour special. This is fantastic value.

The restaurant has a no wastage policy and charges $5 per 100g of wasted food.

The Final Verdict

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Santa-Fe is an awesome Tex-Mex grill. We came here during the day when it was very relaxed. This place gets busy in the evenings. They offer a cheerful, warm environment with great ambience making it perfect to meet up with friends for a meal and some drinks, and casually catch up.
