The Glasshouse

The Glasshouse is a place that I discovered completely by accident. A friend of mine had organised breakfast here with a group of us.

When we showed up, we discovered that they didn’t serve anything substantial here, and that it’s more of a coffee shop and a place for light bites.

And that, they do well.

Ambience, Service and the Staff

As the name suggests, the Glasshouse has a lot of glass and lot of ambient light. The decor of beech veneer and white washed walls lends a minimalist feel to this café that has large, floor to ceiling glass walls along the corridor that it is built in. This is housed away within Chijmes, and has a very cool outdoor ceiling.

The staff are generally behind the counter taking orders and bringing food out.

The Food

This is a coffee shop. It needs to be said that they do serve very good coffee, and have a selection of light bites on offer. This is the sort of place that you’d come to so that you can get some work done, have a meeting, or that first date, before taking it anywhere further.

The Price Point

They’re quite reasonable. Coffee and the salmon on toast ran about $13.

The Final Verdict

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a very nice little coffee shop that is hidden away in the centre of the city. You wouldn’t know that it was here unless someone told you about it. If you have a larger appetite, Chijmes has a very large selection of restaurants with more on offer.
