Dempsey Hill has an assortment of amazing places to get a meal. The White Rabbit is perhaps one of my favourites.
The Ambience, Service and Staff
The White Rabbit is internationally recognised as one of Singapore’s most charming private dining restaurants, and is set in a restored colonial chapel. This is a really popular restaurant and reservations are essential. We’d made a reservation through Chope. The friendly and efficient staff had our table ready on arrival. We were seated straight away, and provided me with a menu. The restaurant has a feeling of spaciousness, with high ceilings and stained glass windows. We were there for dinner. I expect that a visit here a lunch will allow one to enjoy how the light filters through the windows. The restaurant has standard tables, and intimate semicircular booths that will comfortably accommodate 4 adults. The booths and the bench seating down the middle of the restaurant are cushioned and offer lots of support.
The Food
We were a party of two and were celebrating when we visited. We started with a Burratina Salad. For our mains, we got the Kühlbarra Barramundi and the Iberico Pork Collar. We finished with the Pineapple Baked Alaska. They also had a 1-for-1 special on drinks and we ordered the Hendrick’s Gin and Tonic.
Their service is very quick, with the starter coming out within minutes. They served perhaps one of the best Burratinas that I have eaten. It was served chilled, and gentled oozed a light, creamy texture once you broke through the skin. Drinks were served along with our starters, and we felt that the Gin & Tonic was perhaps one of the best we’d ever had.
The mains followed. The Iberico Pork Collar was presented as a cuboid, served with charred caramelised cabbage and kelp butter, which offered a very interesting taste. The barramundi was cooked to perfection and served with blue mussels and crispy leek.
Rounding up the meal was the Pineapple Alaska Bake. This was a light dessert that was served flambéed with dark rum. Not too heavy, not too sweet, and a pleasant end to a very nice meal.
The Price Point
Our meal of 1 starter, 2 mains, 1 dessert and 2 drinks (as a one-for-one) came out to just under $175. As fine dining goes, this is good value. It is a pricey place, and you pay for the quality, ambience and experience which will not disappoint.
The Final Verdict
The White Rabbit is a special place where one goes to celebrate special occasions. Consider this for when you have birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, or dates to plan for. We loved our experience here and would love to go back again.
