This is perhaps one of the best value Japanese restaurants that one can find in Singapore
Ambience, Service and the Staff
Wahiro is an understated Japanese restaurant facing the street on the ground level of Roxy Square in Katong. It’s really easy to walk past and is one of those hidden gems that you would be happy to have discovered.
The interior is decorated in the style of a Japanese Izakaya, and has seats at the sushi bar, standard tables, and floor seating in traditional Japanese style. They’re always busy, so it’s important to call ahead and make reservations. Reservations are done over the phone.
The staff are professional and courteous, and have always seated us promptly.
The Food
I have visited this restaurant several times, and regularly visit here. We’re generally a party of two and end up ordering the weekend lunch specials. Our regular order consists of the Japanese Satay set, trading out the sashimi for vegetable tempura, and the sushi set. The sets are served with salad and miso soup. The sushi set comes with tempura and Japanese chicken curry stew.
Food comes out very quickly, starting with soup and the salad. If you’re seated at the counter, you’ll have a front row seat to sushi and sashimi chefs putting your meal together and personally serving it to you straight from the kitchen.
The Japanese Satay offers an awesome selection. I generally ask for no innards and up getting a satay stick of salmon. My favourite among them is the minced chicken sausage.
The Price Point
They’re very reasonably priced for an establishment of this quality in this part of town. For a party of two, lunch is typically around the $50 mark.
The Final Verdict
Wahiro is a great place for a casual lunch or dinner with friends, family, or with your significant other.
They have an amazing selection, and a high quality of food and service at a reasonable price. Go try them out.
