51 Soho is located at 51 Telok Ayer street (hence the name), and is close to the offices of several large organisations in the area. Earlier this evening, some colleagues from work and I met up here for a Happy Hour.
Ambience, Service and the Staff
The restaurant accepts bookings through Chope. We had booked ahead and were seated very quickly. The restaurant has seating both indoors and outdoors. Being a very warm afternoon, we requested to be seated indoors. The staff were accommodating and moved a few tables around in the corner. They have nice, comfortable seats with plush upholstery and plenty of back support.
Their menus are printed on the placemats placed on solid wooden tables.
The Food
51 Soho has a range of food on offer. We went with a few small plates, and a few mains, and shared a dessert.
We ordered a plate of chips and guacamole, some truffle fries, and the salmon asparagus with ponzu sauce as our starters, and the fresh salmon grain bowl, the Pörkölt Beef Stew, and the Soho Wagyu Cheeseburger as our mains. We also ordered a couple of beers and a hot beverage, and finished off our meal sharing a slice of their Awesome Cheesecake.
Drinks came out very quickly, and food was not far behind. The small bites took about 5 minutes to come out, and the mains followed about 5 minutes later. Throughout the meal, our glasses were kept full as the staff regularly checked in on us.
After chatting for a while, we placed an order for dessert which also came out in 5 minutes.
Portion sizes are generous. The guacamole was fresh, the truffle fries were hot and crispy, and the salmon asparagus was beautifully prepared and presented. The beef stew was very well made, and served with a sliced baguette on the side. The salmon rice bowl was very large and satisfying. The burger was served with a fresh salad and fries and was satisfying without being overwhelming. The cheesecake was the surprise package and was surprisingly good. Dare I say it… it lived up to its name. It was Awesome after all!
The Price Point
Our bill came up to just over $170 for 6 people. That’s just under $30 per person. For this part of town, this is very reasonable.
The Final Verdict
51 Soho is a cosy joint to meet up with friends and colleagues for lunch, and for drinks and dinner after work. They have a very well stocked bar and is very professionally run. Their warm interior and efficient service makes for a very pleasant place to enjoy a meal after a long day, and you have the option dining al-fresco, should you choose to. It’s classy, without being overboard.
I will be back here again. You should try it too!
