Alter Ego was the restaurant here in Singapore that made me want to start writing about food in the first place. This establishment is at Esplanade. It’s a great place for brunch, or to meet friends after work. It is perfectly located to grab a bite before or after attending a concert at the Durian.
Ambience, Service and the Staff
Alter Ego has a very industrial interior. The exposed ceilings are complemented with an elaborate mural, steel and wood furniture and lots of natural light.
They do accept online reservations via Chope. However, I have always walked in. It does tend to get busy on weekends and around meal times.
The staff are super courteous and attentive and have always seated me quickly.
The Food
The food is what really brings me back here. Their offerings are a little left of centre with a lot of fusion thrown into dishes with their roots firmly in Asia. I’ve eaten the Slappy Chicken and Cakes and can certainly give it the thumbs up.
My friends who have visited here with me have all been similarly inclined.
Alter Ego’s main draw card is their selection of thick shakes. In one word… sinful! They’re large, and they’re sweet – but they are oh-so-good for sharing!
The Price Point
For a restaurant of this kind and location, they are very reasonably priced. 4 mains and 2 shakes set us back around the $80 mark.
The Final Verdict
I’ve continued to go back to Alter Ego ever since I first went there. Let’s just say that it made a great first impression, and one just cannot resist from returning back for more.
