East Coast Commune lies in the same complex that houses the McDonald’s and the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at East Coast part and offers a great place for couples and families to get something to eat. This is a child-friendly cafe.
Ambience, Service and the Staff
The café is beautifully decorated in white, teal and wood that gives it a sense of calm. It’s quite large and spacious, with lots of natural light coming in from the ceiling to floor windows in the front. They take reservations through their online system and only accept walk-ins on weekends and public holidays. I walked in just after it had opened for the day, when it was fairly empty. There were about 4 tables that were occupied – all by groups of 4 or more. I was directed to a table and served water and provided cutlery. Menus are accessible via a QR code, and orders are taken at the counter. Their staff are friendly and courteous.
The Food
I was on my own this morning, having finished my bike ride for the morning. I ordered a large mocha and the Pork Fennel Sausage, Bacon, Sautéed Mushrooms & Greens, and Eggs.
Coffee came first – they took about 5 minutes. I took my time admiring the café as I sipped on the comforting Mocha while waiting for my food which came about 5 minutes later. The croissant is perhaps one of the best that I have had in long time. It was warm, soft and buttery that lent it a comforting taste and texture, particularly for someone who was both hungry and tired after a morning workout. The bacon was crispy (I prefer mine soft and in hindsight should have told them of my preference), the pork fennel sausage was lightly spiced, and the mushrooms were warm without being overcooked and served over some salad leaves that had a touch of olive-oil on them.
The Price Point
My bill came up to just under $27. This is more or less what you’d pay at any café for breakfast of this standard, with a bonus that it is within a park.
The Final Verdict
This is a lovely café to come to, and is perhaps one of the best places in East Coast Park that offers breakfast. They’re very popular with young families. I recommend coming here early to enjoy it most. I’m definitely coming back here and would recommend it!
