Shaw House on Orchard Road has several little hidden gems. This is one of them.
The Ambience, Service and Staff
Indigo Blue Kitchen is on the second floor of the Shaw Center, in a corridor leading to several other restaurants. You can make reservations via Chope. We had not made any reservations on the day, and were hungry. They had a table available, and we walked in. We were seated quickly and menus were made available straight away. The staff were friendly and courteous and regularly checked in on us throughout our meal.
The Food
We were a party of 2 and were reasonably hungry. We ordered the IBK’s Platter for 2 consisting of Kueh Pie Tee, Otah Otah, and Ngoh Hiang, the Eggplant, and the Beef Rendang, with Rice. We also ordered a couple of soft drinks.
Their service was really fast. The platter for 2 came out straight away followed shortly by the eggplant. As we worked our way through the starters, the Beef Rendang came out. Our entire order was on our table in under 10 minutes.
The Otah Otah is very well made – hot and soft. The Ngoh Hiang was crispy on the outside and flavoursome. The eggplant was particularly well made with the flesh of the plant remaining delicate, and complemented perfectly with the chilli on the side.
The beef had fully absorbed the rendang flavour and fell apart easily. Served with steamed rice, it provided a satisfying, full bodied flavour that was both comforting and filling.
The Price Point
We spent just over $80 for our meal for 2. It is a tad on the pricey side, but something that I would pay for the quality of food, the service, and the ambience.
The Final Verdict
Indigo Blue Kitchen is one of the nicer restaurants in Shaw House. It offers a small, intimate venue that is appropriate for first dates, special occasions, and business meals. They’re very good and I’d good back there again.
