Located at the base of Fort Canning Park, the Fabulous Baker Boy is known for its cakes, and is a great place to have breakfast on the weekend.
Ambience, Service and the Staff
This restaurant sits on a flat section at the bottom of Fort Canning hill, with plenty of parking in the front, and easy access to the MRT (it is literally right outside the Fort Canning MRT).
The café has lots of natural light with floor to ceiling windows.
I’ve always visited this café during weekends, when it is always full. I’ve also always booked ahead via Chope, and been seated immediately when I’ve entered every time.
The seats are comfortable, and the decor is very welcoming, The combination of the exposed ceilings, whitewashed walls and natural light are beautifully complemented with the wall art and the quirky cushions. This makes the environment very welcoming.
The exposed hard surfaces have sufficient fabrics around that help keep noise levels under control. The staff are polite and courteous, and the service is prompt.
The Food
I’ve been to the Fabulous Baker Boy several times. On one of my first visits back in 2018, I had ordered the Big Breakfast, and then made the error of ordering an additional side of potatoes. The Big Breakfast is very big and more than enough for one person to finish.
Their pancakes are sweet – so its a good idea to tell the staff to reduce their sweetness when served.
Their cakes are their main drawcard. As their name suggests, they’re a bakery, and the make some very nice looking and tasty cakes.
The Price Point
For a party of 2, the bill is generally around $50, or about $25 per person. This includes coffee. This is quite reasonable for a café of this calibre and ambience in this particular neighbourhood.
The Final Verdict
The Fabulous Baker Boy is a great place to meet up with friends on a weekend, or stop by to get some cake and coffee. Their sweet items are definitely their strong suit.
I’ve been here a few times, and will continue to visit them, and recommend giving them a go!
