The Ship

The Ship is a Singapore institution and offers a touch of nostalgia. It is western food that is served with a local twist. This is a popular family restaurant that attracts a lot of young families.

In true old school fashion, the ship accepts reservations over the phone. When calling their reservation hotline, you’ll be asked to provide a date and time for your reservation, the size of your party, and a contact person and number. The restaurant called me back on the day of my reservation to confirm.

I’ve tried walking in here without a reservation, and have always faced a wait of at least 30-minutes. My recommendation is that you call ahead.

Ambience, Service and the Staff

The restaurant offers a touch of nostalgia. They’re ver busy at dinner, and the staff are courteous and efficient, seating us quickly.

There are lots of hard surfaces around, and being a family restaurant, it does get very noisy.

The Food

The food here is Western Food, with a slight Asian Twist. We were a party of 8, and we ordered an assortment of sets that came with soups (we tried the fresh onion soup and the mushroom soup) and desserts (we all got ice creams). Our mains ranged from the Snapper, the Ship Steak (which is a bit of a production – it is flambéd at the table), the Chicken a-la-Ship, the Ship Combo, and Lamb Rack.

The food came out quickly, and the staff are on top of the orders, bringing out the next course as we finished the previous.

The Price Point

Among the 8 of us present, we spent just under $350. This included 3 alcoholic beverages and desserts all around, which is quite decent value.

The Final Verdict

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The Ship offers a sense of nostalgia and great value for money. It’s a decent family restaurant that is in the heart of Singapore. Go hear to celebrate a family event!
