Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen (Funan)

Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen was one of the first places that I discovered when I moved to Singapore. Formerly located in Liang Court, they moved to Funan in 2020 and offer a great selection of hot Japanese fare at a very reasonable price.

Ambience, Service and the Staff

Tonkostu Kazan Ramen does not pitch itself as an up-market establishment. In fact, it’s very charm is the fact that it is down to earth and offers a great meal for everyone at an affordable price. I’ve never made a reservation here, and have always walked in and been seated within minutes.

I’ve been visiting this restaurant since 2016 when they were at Liang Court. I have never seen a line form outside the restaurant, but by that same token, I have never seen it empty either.

Upon entering, the staff greeted me and ushered me to a table of my choice. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, with functional minimalism.

The Food

Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen does not have a huge menu, but they have sufficient choice on offer. If you have a restriction on eating pork, this is probably not the place for you. Almost everything on its menu has pork in it.

They generally pitch its Ramen as their go-to dish. However, I have never eaten Ramen here. I generally order the Curry Chicken Karage Rice which usually takes them no more than 10 minutes to put on the table. Always piping hot when it’s served.

More recently, I partook the Keishoku Ramen set with Gyoza. The ramen is hot, and fresh with a very satisfying broth and lots of toppings. The gyoza ensures that a hungry individual will leave well fed!

They restaurant offers an unlimited supply of hard boiled eggs at every table and a generous selection of condiments.

The Price Point

A standard meal here is about $15. My standard meal of the Curry Chicken Karage Rice usually sets me back $12.95. It is excellent value for someone looking for a quick hot, filling meal.

The Ramen can be purchased as a set and is around $18 for the Ramen and Gyoza (plus taxes).

The Final Verdict

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen also offers a loyalty card. As you accumulate stamps, you earn free items like Gyoza, Fried Rice and a free meal. I’ve been coming to this little hole in the wall for over 4 years now, and will continue to go back
